Day 4: Mission Accomplished

I definitely thought out of the box when I designed this party dress. My inspiration for this dress was derived from a silk tiger printed dress from Bebe. I would have to say this dress is for the more bold and unique individual. It is a side cutout dress mini dress with a partial tulle fabric train attached to the back. To be honest, the white fabric that is connected to back of this dress was not intentional...if I were to redesign this dress it would be the first to go.

Day 4: The Material

Day 3: Mission Accomplished

Have you ever owned a dress that you wish you could wear over and over ( post pictures to Facebook and no one would notice) well this is that dress. This is my favorite dress thus far...not only because it was easy to construct, but I love the versatility of the dress. I call it the 3-in-1 convertible dress. This dress was made from an olive green ( a friend and I still argue about this color) cotton jersey material.


Look 1: Draped classy front/party back-halter dress

* There are much more possibilities that you can create with dress..it just takes a thought and a pin. This dress will bring out the creativity in us all.

Day 2: Mission Accomplished

I purchased the fabric for this dress from a small fabric store in The Bronx. The female associate was very friendly and at one point gave me the "Oh your back again" line; which I'm not sure was a sales pitch or a case of mistaken identity. Nevertheless, I walked out with reasonably priced neon multicolored spandex and light blue sheer material ( $3 per yard ). She even helped me determine the best needle for the spandex material to combat the toughness I'd worked through yesterday.

Day 1: Mission Accomplished

Through all the threads and tears...I completed my first dress! At first the toughness of the spandex material was rough to work with, but once I got the hang of it...it was smooth sailing. The lines in the pinstriped material made it much easier to measure--which cut out about an hour of my design time. I decided to utilize the gold metallic thread as I thought it would not only compliment the colors of the dress, but add to its' pictorial design. My original inspiration was scantily clad = ) but I decided to calm it down...as I did not want to scare away any potential guest to by blog.

Day 1

I traveled to NYC's Fashion District/Garment District to choose some materials for my challenge. At my first stop, Spandex House on 37th street, I was greeted by unknowledgeable and rather rude employees...so I decided to take my budgeted business elsewhere. I came across Mood Fabrics which was directly across the street, on the 3rd floor of a large warehouse. As I walked into Mood Fabrics was in awe by the vast array of designer and traditional fabrics. Because of my budget constraint, I could not help but look at the prices of the materials (first) which ranged from $10.00- $100.00 a yard. Although I am ALL FOR QUALITY, my money is not, so again I took my business elsewhere. Off of 8th Ave...I located another fabric store, unfortunately I do not remember the name; because once I saw DISCOUNT I ran directly inside. I was helped by a generous associate and I walked out satisfied with 5 yards of fabric: 2 yds of tulle, 2 yds of cotton jersey, and 1 yds of spandex material.

The "Project"

As a novice designer/blogger and self-made fashionista I have challenged myself to create one dress a day. That's right...I will be slumped over my ECO-PRO sewing machine for the next few days in an attempt to create 30 dress in 30 days. Sounds similar to one of my favorite movies "Julie and Julia", but instead of dealing with collapsed aspics and burnt stews, I will be stressing over broken needles and skipped stitches! Let the "Project" begin...
